Ewing was incorporated as a township on February 10, 1834, from parts of Trenton Township and parts of Hopewell Township. The township was named for Charles Ewing, a lawyer and judge originally from Trenton.
Ewing Township was incorporated as a borough on January 23, 1894, based on the results of a referendum held the previous day. The borough was reincorporated on February 21, 1897.
