Overview
Bingo is a game of chance in which each player matches numbers printed in different arrangements on cards with the numbers the game host draws at random. The game is played with at least one bingo card per player, which is a pre-printed card with multiple rows and columns of numbers.
Bingo Cards
Each player receives at least one bingo card. The card contains a grid of numbers, with each column headed by a lettered title. Five numbers appear in each column, totaling 24 numbers per card. In the middle of the card is a free space.
The cards are identified by a letter and number printed in the upper left-hand corner. The letter corresponds to the column in which the free space appears—for instance, if the free space is in the B column, the card will be labeled B-1, B-2, B-3, and so forth.
Playing the Game
The game host calls out the letters and numbers in a random order. As the letters and numbers are called out, players mark them off on their bingo cards if they have them. The first player to mark off all of the numbers in a predetermined pattern—typically a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal row—calls out “Bingo!” to alert the other players and the game host.
The game host then checks the bingo card to verify that the player has correctly marked off all of the numbers in the winning pattern. If the player’s card is correct, that player is the winner and receives a prize. If more than one player calls out “Bingo!” at the same time, the prize is split evenly among the winners.
The game host then mixes up the lettered tiles and begins calling out new letters and numbers, and the game continues until someone wins.
