If you're looking for a fun evening out AND a way to support veterans, look no further than your local Veterans of Foreign Wars Post! Bingo nights at the VFW are a great way to unwind, have some laughs, and maybe even win some money. Here's what you need to know if you're thinking of giving bingo at the VFW a try.
Getting Started
When you walk into a VFW Post for bingo, you'll purchase what's called a "pack." This pack contains all of your bingo cards for the evening, and will cost you between $10 and $20, depending on the market value of the prizes that night.
Packs usually contain between 6 and 12 cards, so you've got plenty of chances to win! The cards themselves are printed with a 5x5 grid of numbers. In the center of the grid is a free space.
To play, simply listen as the bingo caller pulls balls out of a hopper one at a time and calls out the corresponding number. If you have that number on any of your cards, mark it off. Once you've got five numbers in a row horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, you've got bingo!
Yelling Out "Bingo!"
When you've got bingo, it's time to let everyone know! At the VFW, they take bingo pretty seriously, so make sure you know the protocol before you start hollering.
First, find a floor walker and quietly show them your card. They'll come over to your table, verify that you've got bingo, and put a "B" sign on your table. Once that happens, the caller will announce that there's a bingo on table so-and-so, and then you can stand up and shout "Bingo!" as loud as you want.
Prizes
The really great thing about playing bingo at the VFW is that the prize money comes directly from the proceeds of the evening's games. That means that the more people who play, the bigger the jackpot!
At this post, they give away cash prizes ranging from $50 to $250. They also offer door prizes, which are given away at the end of the night. To win a door prize, just have your bingo card initialled by a floor walker when you first arrive.
